Prayagraj Mahakumbh-2025 Stampede: Govt admits 30 deaths, CM Yogi announces compensation of Rs 25 lakh each for victims, orders judicial probe


Prayagraj Mahakumbh-2025 Stampede: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh each to the families of those killed in the Mahakumbh stampede. Along with this, a judicial inquiry into the incident has also been ordered. A committee will be formed for this. This investigation will be separate from the police investigation.


Prayagraj DIG Vaibhav Krishna and DM Vijay Anand held a press conference regarding the stampede that took place late on Tuesday near Sangam Nose in Mahakumbh-2025. DIG Vaibhav Krishna said that 30 people have died in the stampede. Out of these, 25 people have been identified. At the same time, 5 people could not be identified. The police administration is engaged in identifying them. A judicial inquiry will be conducted into the incident on the orders of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.


DIG Vaibhav Krishna said that a total of 90 people were taken to the hospital. Sixty people are still admitted in the hospital. A helpline number 1920 has been issued for the victims after the accident. Complaints can be lodged on this toll free number for missing people and other information. The administration will help them.


Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah termed this 'accident' as 'extremely sad' and expressed their deep condolences to the devotees who lost their family members. President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased.


CM holds high-level meeting 


CM held a high-level meeting with several senior officials including the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police. He told reporters that some devotees were 'seriously injured' in the accident. He said that between 1 and 2 o'clock in the night, some devotees were seriously injured while crossing the barricades on the Akhara Marg, where barricades were put up for the Amrit Snan. They were immediately rushed to the hospital and arrangements were made for treatment. 


Some of those devotees are seriously injured. Due to the stampede, the bathing of the Akharas in the Sangam started at around 2:30 in the afternoon instead of in the morning. Sadhus from various Akharas took a holy dip in the Sangam.
