Kota: The series of student suicides in Kota, Rajasthan, continues. On Friday night, a student took his own life by hanging at his grandmother's house in the Jawahar Nagar police station area. This is the fourth student suicide reported in 2025.
The student had JEE Mains exam after four days. Before hanging himself from the angle of the window, the student was studying with his brother till late night. The cousin brother sleeping in the nearby room informed the family about the incident in the morning.
The incident took place late Friday night in Jawahar Nagar police station area. ASI Jawahar Singh said - Manan Jain (17) was a resident of Indergarh area of Bundi district. The family refused to get the son's postmortem done. Manan's maternal uncle Mahavir Jain said that his eyes have been donated with the consent of the family.
Mahavir Jain said, "He was a very sincere and studious boy. His family had sent him here to study while he was still in Class 9. We had no indication that he was under any kind of stress. His parents live in Indergarh in Bundi district and he was supposed to appear for the JEE exam on January 22 next week. His death has shaken up the family deeply. We do not want any post-mortem and just want to put him to rest. The family has also decided to donate his eyes,” he said.
Another student preparing for JEE died of suicide
Earlier, on the night of January 16, in Ambedkar Colony of Vigyan Nagar police station area of Kota, another coaching student preparing for JEE committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan. He had talked to his brother. He had said- I will come home after a month.
Vigyan Nagar police station SI Anjali said- Abhijeet Giri (18), who was preparing for JEE, was a resident of Odisha. His family reached Kota on Friday night. The police have conducted the postmortem and handed over the body to the family. The student's mobile has been seized, which is being investigated.
The fan in the room where Abhijeet was staying did not have an anti-hanging device. In such a situation, the Municipal Corporation has sealed the 17-room hostel with immediate effect.
