Suspect who attacked Saif Ali Khan arrested, could be a Bangladesh national, what Mumbai Police told about the accused


Mumbai Police have announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the knife attack on actor Saif Ali Khan. The accused, identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, was apprehended in Thane and is believed to be a Bangladeshi citizen without Indian documentation.


Zone-9 DCP Gedam Dixit said in a press conference, "The accused is suspected to be Bangladeshi and does not have Indian documents." He said based on the things found from him, he is suspected to be a Bangladeshi. 


He said that the accused has been identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad who had entered the house with the intention of theft.


Accused works in a housekeeping agency in Mumbai


After coming to India illegally, he changed his name to Vijay Das. He entered Saif's apartment for the first time. He came to Mumbai 5-6 months ago. Here he works in a housekeeping agency.


The DCP said that the accused will be produced in the court today and police custody will be demanded and then further investigation will be done.


He also said that 'the accused had earlier told his name as Vijay Das and on suspicion of being of Bangladeshi origin, sections related to the Passport Act have been added in this case. Its investigation is going on.


According to the police, the accused used the stairs of the building which are used in case of fire to enter Saif Ali Khan's house.


Accused caught from Thane's Hiramandi Labor Camp


The accused has been caught from Thane's Hiramandi Labor Camp. Fearing arrest, the accused had first identified himself as Vijay Das.


The accused was brought to Bandra Police Station for questioning at 3.30 am. He will be produced in Bandra Holiday Court this morning.


Saif Ali Khan was attacked with a knife several times in his Bandra house in the early hours of Thursday. After this, he has been admitted to Lilavati Hospital.
