Why there is controversy over Chandrashekhar Azad's statement on Mahakumbh, what did BJP say?

Prayagraj Mahakumbh-2025: BJP has reacted to Chandrashekhar Azad's statement on Kumbh Mela. Uttar Pradesh minister Asim Arun has said that we do not accept anyone making fun of our traditions and faith in this way.

Asim Arun said, "We do not accept what Chandrashekhar ji has said. This is our faith. Kumbh is not just a confluence of sects and traditions, there is a confluence of holy rivers here."

On Chandrashekhar Azad's statement, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Maharaj said, "He (Chandrashekhar Azad) must be a pious soul, if he is a pious soul then it is a good thing. We have come here, so definitely if any fault or sin is committed knowingly or unknowingly, then it is resolved here, such is our belief. And those who believe that they have not committed any sins, they are innocent. We would like to see such an innocent person."

Chandrashekhar Azad had given a statement on the Kumbh Mela on Friday.

Chandrashekhar Azad said, "If you ask the government about employment, basic facilities, housing, food and clothing, then the government does not have an answer. The government says that nothing happens in a day."

Chandrashekhar Azad, the national president of the Azad Samaj Party and Nagina MP, claimed that only those who have committed sins will attend the Maha Kumbh. The Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj is scheduled to start on January 13 and will run until February 26.

During his visit to the Saharanpur MP-MLA court, Azad reiterated his statement to reporters. "Only those people will go to the Kumbh Mela who have committed sins. Only those who have committed sins should go."

Azad was present in court for a hearing related to an attack on him.

Azad criticized the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, describing it as dire. He accused the chief minister of having a dictatorial approach, claiming that the leader acts according to personal whims. "The situation in Uttar Pradesh is very bad. There is jungle raj here," he stated. Azad also alleged that there was an attempt on his life.

The Lok Sabha MP highlighted ongoing discrimination against society's marginalized groups. He stated that the Azad Samaj Party is committed to fighting for the rights and dignity of these communities, which have endured years of prejudice based on religion and community.
