BJP secures historic victory in Milkipur Assembly Election, what Akhilesh Yadav said?

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has avenged its previous defeat in Ayodhya by clinching the Milkipur assembly seat, marking a big win after eight years. BJP candidate Chandbhanu Paswan achieved the largest victory in Milkipur's history, defeating Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Ajit Prasad by a margin of 61,636 votes.

In the 2012 elections, SP's Awadhesh Prasad had won by 39,237 votes. In the recent by-election, Paswan garnered 1,46,291 votes, while Prasad secured 84,655 votes, resulting in the forfeiture of the security deposits of all other eight candidates.

How things changed in 8 months?

Ajit Prasad, despite being the son of Ayodhya MP Awadhesh Prasad, faced defeat even in his own booth. Notably, in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP trailed SP by 7,000 votes in the Milkipur assembly, but within just eight months, the situation has dramatically shifted.

Suraj Chaudhary from the Azad Samaj Party finished in third place with 5,457 votes. The BJP maintained a lead from the first round of counting, never allowing SP to take the lead at any point.

False victory: Akhilesh

Akhilesh Yadav, the SP leader, referred to the Milkipur result as a "false victory" for the BJP, suggesting that the party's supporters would struggle to celebrate it genuinely. He vowed that those involved in alleged electoral fraud would face consequences, stating that both nature and the law would not spare them.

Awadhesh Prasad and his son Ajit Prasad remained at home following the election results. In a statement to the media, Awadhesh Prasad accused the BJP of dishonesty and claimed that their supporters engaged in booth capturing.

After his victory, Chandrabhanu Paswan was seen seeking blessings from supporters at the BJP office by touching their feet.

Awadhesh Prasad, previously an SP MLA from Milkipur, was nominated to contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and became an MP from Ayodhya (Faizabad), leaving the Milkipur seat vacant.
