Goods Trains Collide in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, Loco Pilots Seriously Injured


A train accident occurred in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, February 4th, involving two goods trains. A stationary goods train, which was halted on the freight track due to a red signal, was struck from behind by another goods train traveling at high speed. The impact was so powerfiul that the engine and the guard's coach of the stationary train were derailed.


The loco pilots of both the trains were seriously injured. Senior railway officials reached the spot as soon as the information about the accident was received. The loco pilots were admitted to the hospital. The track is being cleared. The accident took place near Pambhipur in Khaga between Kanpur-Fatehpur.


Goods train was standing at red signal


Railway officials said a coal loaded goods train was standing on the dedicated freight corridor track near Pambhipur in Khaga between Kanpur-Fatehpur due to red signal. At 8 am on Tuesday, suddenly a goods train coming at high speed from behind hit the train standing in front. After the accident, coal was scattered on the track. The engine and guard's coach of the goods train standing in front fell down from the track. Loco pilots of both the trains were seriously injured in the accident.


As soon as the information was received, senior railway officers reached the spot. Loco pilots of both the trains were admitted to the hospital. Relief and rescue operations are underway. Due to the accident, rail traffic on the freight corridor is affected. Many freight trains have been stopped. Routes of some have been changed. The railway administration has ordered an investigation.


Accident happened due to pilot's mistake


DFC's AGM Joginder Singh reached the spot. He said- the accident is being investigated. Initial investigation suggests human error. That means the pilot has made a mistake. Rescue is being done. Efforts are being made to restore the track. However, it may take time to repair the track. Many goods trains are standing on the up line. Some are being diverted.


DFC sources said that initial investigation has revealed that the goods train coming from behind had to stop at the red signal. However, the pilot did not stop the train at the red signal. He either could not see the red signal or could not understand it. It hit the train standing ahead on the same track.
