Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: The campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections-2025 has now ended. Voting will be held on February 5 and the results will be declared on February 8. Arvind Kejriwal is contesting for the fourth time from the New Delhi seat in Delhi, which has 70 assembly constituencies, but this time he is facing a tough challenge. Valmiki temple is also in the New Delhi assembly constituency. Every time before filing his nomination, Arvind Kejriwal goes to this temple to pay his obeisance. He went there this time too.
There is also a Valmiki colony a short distance from the temple. In which people of the Valmiki community live. When these people were asked about the elections, a young man said that this time the Valmiki vote will be divided and not go in bulk to AAP. The Valmiki vote will go to the Congress as well as to the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party. An elderly man said that the biggest problem here is the lack of employment for children.
This is the same Valmiki colony where Arvind Kejriwal, along with other party leaders, had launched his election symbol here in 2013 by sweeping. In the politics of election symbols, Kejriwal's election symbol broom got the support of Dalit voters in the last two elections. This also includes the section which is associated with the cleaning work of Delhi. For this section, the broom has its own importance.
In the 2013 elections, Dalit voters had fully supported the newly formed Aam Aadmi Party. In the 2013 elections, AAP won nine of the 12 reserved seats. In the last two elections, the Aam Aadmi Party had a clean sweep on all twelve seats.
Party performimng well in Dalit reserved seats formed govt
In the seven assembly elections held from 1993 to 2020, the party that gained an edge in the assembly seats reserved for the Dalit class, formed the government in Delhi. Ambedkar Basti is in Karol Bagh assembly constituency, located about 10 km from Valmiki temple.
Karol Bagh assembly seat is also a reserved seat. Here the colony looks clean on the outside, but when you go inside the streets, you can see a pile of garbage. Electricity, water and drainage are the basic issues among the people of the colony, but here people also seem to be very worried about their shanties.
Need for basic facilities in Delhi's slums
There are more than 600 slum colonies and more than 1700 slum colonies in the capital Delhi. A large population of Dalits resides in these. Often, BJP and Aam Aadmi Party leaders come face to face over these slums of Dalits. Aam Aadmi Party accuses BJP of demolishing slums, while BJP counters this allegation of AAP by raising the slogan 'Jahan par jhuggy wahin par makaan'.
Sadar Bazar Assembly constituency is situated some distance away from Ambedkar Basti. Daya Basti is situated in it. As soon as you enter Daya Basti, you see a statue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Dirt is seen on the roads and streets and BSP flags are seen hanging on the houses. Here in the colony, the number of voters of Jatav community is more.
These 12 seats of Delhi are reserved
Bawana, Karol Bagh, Sultanpur Majra, Mangolpuri, Patel Nagar, Madipur, Ambedkar Nagar, Trilokpuri, Deoli, Seemapuri, Gokalpur and Kondli.
