BJP MP Hema Malini has commented on the ongoing controversy surrounding the recent stampede at the Prayagraj Mahakumbh-2025 Mela. She said the incident is being exaggerated. During discussions in Parliament's budget session, she said, "Nothing so big happened in Kumbh."
Hema Malini emphasized her positive experience at the event. She said, "I went to Kumbh, I had a very good bath there, everything was very good."
In response to journalists' inquiries, she acknowledged that while an incident did occur, it was not as severe as reported. "Kumbh has been organized very well. Whatever happened is being exaggerated," she added.
Addressing opposition leader Akhilesh Yadav's call for Army deployment at Kumbh, she expressed confidence in the Uttar Pradesh government's management of the event. "Arrangements in Kumbh were very good even before and have become even better after the accident. So many people are coming there, and we are still trying our best," she said.
Hema Malini also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Kumbh soon, highlighting the event's ongoing significance. The tragic stampede occurred during the Mauni Amavasya on the night of January 28-29 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in 30 confirmed deaths and 60 injuries, according to the state government. However, opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party and Congress, allege that the actual figures are being concealed.
