High-Stakes By-Election in Milkipur: Why Has It Become A Battle of Prestige for BJP and SP? Will CM Yogi succeed in breaking Akhilesh's fort; will hold a huge public meeting today

A by-election is set to take place for the Milkipur assembly seat, situated near Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. This election has become a matter of prestige for both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP).

CM Yogi will address a public meeting

A day before the end of campaigning for the by-election in the Milkipur assembly constituency, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will address a public meeting on Sunday to woo the regional voters in favor of BJP candidate Chandrabhanu Paswan.

On Sunday, the CM will not only address the public meeting, but can also review the tasks given to the MLAs and ministers in the last public meeting. On Monday, the last day of election campaign, SP national president Akhilesh Yadav will try to foil the BJP strategy by holding a public meeting.

Akhilesh Yadav has nominated Ajit Prasad, the son of SP MP Awadhesh Prasad. The BJP has chosen Chandrabhan as their candidate for Milkipur, while Suraj Chaudhary from Chandrashekhar Azad's Azad Samaj Party has made the contest triangular. Voting is scheduled for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.

Samajwadi Party and MP Awadhesh Prasad are busy making strategies to ensure the victory for Ajit. Awadhesh Prasad claims that this election is going to be historic because the SP candidate from Milkipur will win big. This election to be held on only one assembly seat of UP is very important because the Bharatiya Janata Party had to face defeat in the Lok Sabha elections held after the construction and Pran Pratishtha of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Why has Milkipur become a high profile seat?

Locals of Milkipur assembly constituency say that BJP has made this election a high profile one. People say that the ruling party and the opposition do not want to leave any stone unturned in this election. The whole country is watching this seat to see who wins and who loses.

There are around 3 lakh, 70 thousand voters in Milkipur assembly constituency. There are around 1 lakh 92 thousand male voters here. While the number of female voters is close to 1 lakh 77 thousand. The issue of an outsider candidate on this seat has become a big question for BJP.

BJP leader Radheshyam was also among the contenders for the ticket, but someone else was made the candidate. When the BJP candidate filed his nomination, he did not go along. However, Radheshyam now says that he respects the decision of the party and is not angry.

Ajit Prasad, son of Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad, is contesting elections for the first time. He considers stray animals to be the biggest election issue in this area. He says that many farmers have lost their lives due to stray animals, but this government has not paid heed to it. The BJP candidate, on the other hand, believes that development is a bigger issue here than stray animals.

Pasi vs Pasi contest

The BJP's defeat in Faizabad in Lok Sabha elections had come amid the SP's ever-increasing PDA narrative. This escalated further when Lallu stirred up a controversy by saying that his party needs a 2/3 majority to change the constitution.

The government will need a two-thirds majority in Parliament to “make a new Constitution”, Ayodhya’s sitting BJP MP Lallu Singh had purportedly said at a public meeting in Milkipur assembly constituency in April last year prior to Lok Sabha elections.

Paswan is pitted against Awadhesh's son Ajit, who is also a Pasi. Not surprisingly, this election is going to be a Pasi vs Pasi contest in the constituency, where the Dalit voters make up around 27%.

BSP, Cong out of fray

With the BSP out of the fray and Congress being an ally of the SP, the Milkipur election battle has turned into a direct contest between the BJP and the SP. The electoral battle will once again test the prestige of the BJP and the SP after the recent by-elections on nine seats, of which the saffron party won seven.
