Cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) are on the rise in Pune district, Maharashtra, leading to an increase in people succumbing to deadly disease. Reports indicate that five people have died due to GBS in the region. The alarming trend has prompted heightened concern from local authorities.
Currently, 149 suspected cases of GBS have been identified, with 124 confirmed diagnoses. Among these, 28 patients are receiving treatment on ventilators.
The Maharashtra health
department's data reveals that the majority of affected people are children
aged 0-9 and young adults aged 20-29, particularly in rural areas. The highest
concentration of cases—82—has been reported from newly incorporated villages
within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), followed by 29 cases in Pune city,
17 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, 13 in rural Pune, and 8 from other districts.
In related news, a 45-year-old
woman in Jalgaon has been diagnosed with GBS but is currently stable and
receiving appropriate care at the Government Medical College and Hospital.
Jalgaon's guardian minister, Gulabrao Patil, has urged the public to remain
calm and seek medical attention at government hospitals if they experience any
symptoms.
