Indian cricket's seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman, Wriddhiman Saha, has officially announced his retirement from the sport. The 40-year-old player took to social media platform X to share his heartfelt reflections on his cricketing journey. Saha had previously revealed his retirement plans, culminating in his final Ranji match against Punjab.
Now it is time to spend time with my family
In an emotional farewell note, Saha said, "I have enjoyed every moment of my long journey. I have done my best for every team I have played for. There are a lot of memories. I thank everyone involved in my journey. Now it is time to spend time with my family."
Wriddhiman Saha extended his gratitude to various cricketing organizations that were pivotal in his career, including the BCCI, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), and his IPL teams—KKR, CSK, and GT. He also paid tribute to his coach, Jayant Bhowmick, who imparted essential cricketing skills.
Saha amassed 1,353 runs in 40 Test matches
Throughout his career, Saha amassed 1,353 runs in 40 Test matches, which included three centuries and six half-centuries. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he scored 41 runs across nine matches, while in first-class cricket, he racked up 7,169 runs in 142 matches, with 14 centuries to his name.
Saha also made significant contributions in the IPL and domestic T20 leagues, scoring 4,655 runs in 255 T20 matches.
Unfortunately, Saha's last Ranji Trophy innings ended with a duck, as he was dismissed for zero run off seven balls, leaving him without a fairy tale conclusion to his career. However, his numerous contributions to cricket will not be forgotten.
