Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Faces Legal Action for Alleged Disrespect of National Anthem, Hearing in Muzaffarpur Court Today; What Jitan Ram Manjhi Said?

Muzaffarpur: A petition was filed in a court in Muzaffarpur, Bihar last Friday, accusing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of "disrespecting" the national anthem during a program in Patna. The court has scheduled the hearing of the case on this petition today, March 25.

Local lawyer Suraj Kumar filed the petition in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (West) of Muzaffarpur. Speaking to reporters after filing the petition, the lawyer stated, "The Chief Minister defamed the state with his conduct during the inauguration of a sports event last Thursday." The petition urges the court to direct the police to register a case against the CM under the relevant sections of the BNS and the National Pride Insult Prevention Act.

The controversy centers around an event on March 20, where Nitish Kumar was seen smiling and waving to the audience while the national anthem was played. Allegedly, he was laughing and conversing with his Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar on stage during the anthem. Video footage purportedly shows him patting his Principal Secretary's shoulder and greeting someone in the audience with folded hands. Notably, as the national anthem began, Nitish Kumar reportedly left the stage to meet participants.

There was nothing objectionable: Manjhi

In response to the controversy, Hindustani Awam Morcha (S) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi defended the Chief Minister, stating, "Nitish Kumar has been the Chief Minister of Bihar for 20 years. His tenure is known for good governance, and his sharp intellect has been appreciated all over the world. We in the NDA are determined to win the assembly elections to be held later this year under his leadership." Manjhi added that there was nothing objectionable in Nitish's behavior and suggested that those new to politics should notteach him how to respect the national anthem.
