Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday demanded that social security pension be hiked and poor women be given Rs 2,500 per month. Yadav made the demand a day before the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar is scheduled to present its last budget on Monday before the assembly elections this year.
Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the assembly, said he hoped the government would announce 200 units of free electricity for all consumers in the state. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who handles the finance portfolio, will present the state budget for the financial year 2025-26 in the assembly on Monday.
'Social security pension not hiked for last 20 years'
Talking to reporters, Tejashwi Yadav alleged that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre and the state have no concern for the people of Bihar. He also claimed that the state government has not hiked the social security pension for the last 20 years.
The Leader of Opposition said that the amount given to people above 60 years of age, widows and Divyangjans should be increased from the current Rs 400 to Rs 1,500 per month, which is the lowest in the country.
The former Deputy CM of Bihar said that we demand a substantial increase in social security pension, Rs 2500 per month to women of poor and disadvantaged sections and 200 units of free electricity to all consumers of the state. He said that the NDA government of the state should accept these demands and announce these initiatives in the budget for the next financial year.
Increase in reservation demanded
The RJD leader also demanded to increase the reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes from 50 per cent to 65 per cent. He said that the previous Mahagathbandhan government increased the reservation for disadvantaged castes in government jobs and educational institutions from 50 per cent to 65 per cent, which made the total reservation 75 per cent in the light of caste-based survey in Bihar.
Tejashwi Yadav claimed that BJP moved the court against the caste based survey and embroiled the whole matter in a legal battle. He accused the BJP of ending reservation and manipulating the reservation and said that we want restoration of reservation. He claimed that due to non-implementation of 65 percent reservation, SC/ST, OBC and EBC (economically backward class) candidates are directly losing 16 percent reservation.
