J&K Pahalgam Terror Attack: PM Modi to cut short Saudi tour, will return to India; Putin, Trump express condolences


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will return leaving his Saudi Arabia tour midway after the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. Modi had arrived on a two-day Saudi tour on Tuesday on the invitation of Saudi Prince Mohammad Bin Salman.


The terrorists fired more than 50 bullets on the tourists. In view of  the seriousness of the situation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reached Srinagar from Delhi. PM Narendra Modi has also spoken to Amit Shah over the phone regarding this terrorist attack.


PM Modi was to attend the state dinner on Tuesday and after that he was going to discuss many agreements with Mohammad Bin Salman on Wednesday, but his program was canceled midway due to the Kashmir attack. Now PM Modi will reach India early on Wednesday morning.


PM Modi posted on X :


"I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. 


Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger."


Anti-terror operation launched 


Soon after the attack, Amit Shah called a meeting at his home in Delhi, which was attended by Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, the sources said. CRPF chief Gyanendra Pratap Singh, the J&K Director General of Police and some Army officials also joined the meeting through video conferencing. Mr Shah also spoke to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, they added.


An anti-terror operation has been launched to neutralise the terrorists, informed Sinha, asserting the "perpetrators of Pahalgam attack will have to pay a very heavy price for their heinous act".


World leaders express condolence


The White House spokesperson said that President Donald Trump will soon talk to PM Modi to express condolences on the Pahalgam attack. America stands with India.


After returning to India, Modi will attend the Union Cabinet's security affairs meeting on Wednesday.


World leaders have condemned the Kashmir attack. Russian President Putin said - The perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack will get strict punishment. We are with India.


US President Donald Trump wrote - Very disturbing news has come from Kashmir. America stands firmly with India against terrorism. We pray for the peace of the souls of those killed and the recovery of the injured.


US Vice President JD Vance wrote- Usha and I express our condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam,. Over the past few days, we have been impressed by the beauty of this country and its people. Our prayers are with the victims.


Italian Prime Minister Georgia Miloni said- Deeply saddened by the terrorist attack in India today, in which many people were killed. Italy expresses its condolences to the victim families, the injured, the government and all the Indian people.


Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Suhail Ejaz Khan said that PM Modi and the Saudi Crown Prince talked about the terrorist attack in Kashmir. The Crown Prince condemned the attack and offered all possible help to India in this matter.


Biggest terrorist attack in Kashmir after 2019


The biggest terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir has taken place after the 2019 Pulwama attack. Terrorists opened fire on tourists on Tuesday, killing 27 people. The dead also include a UAE and a Nepal tourist.


The incident took place at around 2.45 pm on Tuesday in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam. The terrorists fired at other tourists and escaped. Lashkar-e-Taiba has claimed responsibility for the attack.
