Lucknow: Massive fire in Govt Lokbandhu Hospital, one dies; hospital gate was so narrow that fire vehicle couldn't enter


A massive fire broke out in the Government Lokbandhu Hospital located at Ashiana in UP capital Lucknow at around 10 pm on Monday night. The fire started from the second floor. First of all, the ICU and Female Medicine Ward came under the grip of the fire. There were about 55 patients in both the wards.


As the fire taking a terrible form, there was a stampede in the wards. Doctors, staff and relatives together took out 250 patients from the hospital. At the same time, according to the information received so far, it is reported that one patient has died in the accident.


At present, the cause of the fire is being said to be a short circuit. The flames of the fire were so strong that the hospital was filled with smoke all around. There was screaming everywhere. Meanwhile, the hospital staff cut off the electricity, due to which there was darkness everywhere. Due to this, patients had to face a lot of difficulties in getting out.


People kept pleading to save their relatives


The flames of the fire were so terrifying that by the time the fire brigade vehicles arrived, the fire had spread to the other wards as well. Some kept pleading to save their father, while some kept asking for help to take out their husband. Amidst the chaos, doctors, nurses, hospital staff, caretakers and firefighters along with the local police saved lives by taking out the patients with the help of torches and mobile lights.


Fire brigade vehicle stuck outside the gate


The fire brigade vehicle that reached to extinguish this terrible fire in the hospital got stuck outside the main gate of Lokbandhu Hospital because, the gate was narrow. Even after about an hour of hard work, the driver could not succeed. After this, smaller vehicles were sent inside from the other gate. Meanwhile, the fire had become uncontrollable.


250 patients shifted to another hospital


About 250 patients who were taken out of the hospital have been shifted to Civil, Balrampur, KGMU, Lohia and other hospitals. The health department has been alerted. Rescue and search operations continued in the hospital till late night.


Meanwhile, Rajkumar Prajapati (61), a resident of Chhitwapur in Hussainganj, who was brought to the Civil Hospital, has been declared dead. The family members allege that the oxygen supply stopped after the power cut in Lokbandhu Hospital, due to which he lost his life.


24 patients being treated at Civil Hospital


Civil Hospital Director Dr. Rajesh Srivastava said, "Around 24 patients have come here, the condition of the patients admitted is stable. All have been examined. Treatment of all has started."


"Two patients were serious, they are in the ICCU, doctors are examining them. All the patients who have come to this hospital are fine."


At the same time, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said, "Smoke was seen on the third floor of Lokbandhu Hospital. After that, patients started being shifted. All the patients were rescued. There were about two hundred patients. There have been no casualties."
