Ahmedabad: A two-day session of the Congress is going to start in Gujarat from today. This program will run for two days on 8 and 9 April in Ahmedabad, in which many big leaders and workers of the party including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge are participating. This is the 84th session of the party which is being organized in Gujarat after 64 years. Earlier, the party had organized this session in Bhavnagar in the year 1961 in the state.
The session will start with the meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC). The party has organized this meeting at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial. Along with the members of the Working Committee, all the Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states, state presidents, in-charges, Leader of Opposition along with many other senior leaders will also participate in the program.
Rahul-Sonia leave for Ahmedabad
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and senior party leader Sonia Gandhi have left to attend the 84th session of the Congress. Both will stay in the program organized in Gujarat for two days. The main session will be held on April 9, in which about two thousand Congress Committee representatives from all over the country will participate. This program is to be held on the Sabarmati River Front. A special VIP dome has also been built here. Tight security arrangements have also been made here.
This is the theme of the Congress session
This Maha Adhiveshan of Congress will be conducted on a special theme. This time the theme has been kept as 'Nyay Path: Sankalp, Samarpan and Sangharsh' (Justice Path: Determination, Dedication amd Struggle). In the session, along with discussing the policies, works and upcoming strategy and resolutions of the Congress, emphasis will be laid on the workers to move forward with unity. It is believed that this is a big initiative to prepare a roadmap for the 2027 assembly elections.
Organizational agendas will be discussed
During this time the party will keep its organizational issues prominently. There will be discussion on strengthening the position of the party in Gujarat. Discussion will also be held with the members regarding the election strategy. Advice will also be taken on which issues the party is getting weak on. In the evening, the leaders will also attend a prayer meeting at Sabarmati Ashram. Cultural programmes will also be organised during this time.
The structural changes would include the District Congress Committees (DCCs) leading the ideological fight against the BJP as well as counter any “polarising narrative” at the ground level besides raising funds for the party and run media and social media campaigns.
Gujarat will be the starting point for the Cong to usher in the changes
Soon after the session, Gujarat — a State where the party has been out of power since 1995 — will be the starting point for the Congress to usher in the changes, aimed at empowering the organisation at the grassroots level.
On Tuesday (April 8), an extended CWC will meet at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial to approve the draft resolutions for the session and, a day later, (April 9), the AICC session will take place, with around 1,725 elected AICC members and co-opted members participating in it.
