Seoni: A new campaign “Baghdev” has been started in Pench Tiger Reserve of Seoni district for the period from International Biodiversity Day to World Tiger Day. “Baghdev” is worshiped as a deity in the surrounding rural areas and wishes are made to him. This tradition is still prevalent today. It is noteworthy that International Biodiversity Day is celebrated on 22 May while Tiger Day is celebrated on 29 July.
Deputy Director Pench Tiger Reserve Rajneesh Kumar Singh said that in the “Baghdev” campaign, clay tigers will be made in all 130 eco development committees of the buffer area.
Members of eco development committees and expert potters who make clay utensils and toys of Gram Panchdhar will also assist. Committee members will be made aware through posters by Pench Management. The villagers make clay tigers and take these elements of nature as a blessing.
The clay tigers are collected by the park management and baked in a furnace, which will be installed near the tiger artwork being made from steel scrap in Khabasa and preserved in the new place of worship.
The Pench management is trying to make terracotta (clay) artwork this year. He said that along with eco development committees, tourists and residents outside the buffer zone can also join this campaign and make a tiger with their own hands and write their name on it and ask for wishes from "Baghdev".
This will not only create emotional attachment of the communities in tiger conservation but will also provide new employment opportunities to the sculptors of Panchdhar.

सिवनी जिले के पेंच टाइगर रिजर्व में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय जैव विविधता दिवस से विश्व बाघ दिवस तक की अवधि के लिये एक नया अभियान “बाघदेव’’ प्रारंभ किया गया है। “बाघदेव’’ को आसपास के ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में देवता के रूप में पूजा जाता है और उनसे मन्नतें मांगी जाती हैं। यह परम्परा आज भी प्रचलित है। उल्लेखनीय है कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय जैव विविधता दिवस 22 मई को जबकि बाघ दिवस 29 जुलाई को मनाया जाता है।
उप संचालक पेंच टाइगर रिजर्व रजनीश कुमार सिंह ने बताया कि “बाघदेव’’ अभियान में बफर क्षेत्र की सभी 130 ईको विकास समितियों में मिट्टी के बाघ बनाये जायेंगे। ईको विकास समितियों के सदस्य एवं ग्राम पंचधार के मिट्टी के बर्तन और खिलौने बनाने वाले विशेषज्ञ कुम्हार भी सहायता करेंगे। पेंच प्रबंधन द्वारा समिति सदस्यों को पोस्टर के माध्यम से जागरूक किया जायेगा। ग्रामीणजन मिट्टी के बाघ बनाकर उससे प्रकृति के इन तत्वों को वरदान के रूप में लेते हैं।
मिट्टी के बाघों को पार्क प्रबंधन द्वारा एकत्रित करा कर भट्टी में पकाया जाता है, जिन्हें खबासा में निर्माणाधीन स्टील स्क्रेप से बन रही बाघ कलाकृति के पास स्थापित कर नये आस्था स्थल में संजोया जायेगा।
पेंच प्रबंधन का प्रयास है कि इस वर्ष टेराकोटा (मिट्टी) की कलाकृति बनायी जाये। उन्होंने बताया कि इस अभियान में ईको विकास समितियों के साथ पर्यटक एवं अन्य बफर क्षेत्र के बाहर के रहवासी भी जुड़ सकते हैं और अपने हाथ से बाघ बनाकर उसमें अपना नाम लिखकर “बाघदेव’’ से मनोकामना मांग सकेंगे, इससे बाघ संरक्षण में समुदायों के भावनात्मक जुड़ाव के साथ ही पंचधार के मूर्तिकारों के लिये रोजगार के नये अवसर भी प्राप्त होंगे।
