Air India's Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane has crashed in Ahmedabad. There were 242 passengers on board, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The plane was flying to London when it exploded near the airport boundary during takeoff.
According to information, 100 bodies have been recovered so far from the wreckage of the plane. Relief and rescue workers are extinguishing the fire as well as searching for the injured and dead bodies in the debris.
Air India flight number AI-171 took off at 1.38 pm. It crashed at 1.40 pm. The plane crashed near the Air Custom Cargo Office, which is adjacent to the airport campus. As soon as the plane fell, a cloud of smoke was seen in the entire area.
Fire brigade vehicles have reached the accident site. Ahmedabad Fire Department has confirmed the incident.
Ahmedabad Airport Terminal-1 Manager has told that smoke was seen outside the airport area, after which the entire team has gone to the accident site for investigation.
According to the information, Air India's Dreamliner plane was going from Ahmedabad to London. During take off, it collided with the airport wall and caught fire. After the accident, Home Minister Shah spoke to Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and got information about the accident.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has left for Ahmedabad from Surat. Several teams of relief and rescue workers have also been sent to the airport.
According to initial reports, the accident occurred due to a technical fault in the engine of the aircraft. However, not much information has been received about this yet.
Civil Aviation Minister will soon reach the crash site
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu will soon reach the crash site in Ahmedabad.
Naidu posted on X, “Shocked and devastated to learn about the flight crash in Ahmedabad. We are on the highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation and have directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action. Rescue teams have been mobilised, and all efforts are being made to ensure medical aid and relief support are being rushed to the site. My thoughts and prayers are with all those on board and their families.”
