Elon Musk's electric vehicle company Tesla is going to launch its self-driving Robotaxi service from June 22. This is a big news for investors and tech lovers who have been waiting for this innovative service for a long time.
According to media reports, this service will begin as a pilot project in Austin, Texas. In the initial phase, 10 to 20 Model Y vehicles will be used as robotaxi. These vehicles will run in a limited range and will be constantly monitored.
Videos of such vehicles have already gone viral on social media in which the driver is not visible. However, Elon Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Just getting nervous", which indicates that the launch date may change.
Tesla now focusing more on self-driving technology
Tesla is now focusing more on self-driving technology than low-budget electric cars. But, it is not easy to bring robotaxi technology into common use. Many challenges like safety standards, strict laws and heavy investment are involved in this.
If everything goes according to plan, by June 28, Tesla's vehicles will drive directly from the factory to the customer's home. In the future, the company plans to launch this service in California and other states as well.
It is worth noting that Tesla is not making the world's first robotaxi. Earlier, Amazon's Zoox company has also made robotaxi and they are being tested in many cities of America.
Zoox has been testing these vehicles in various cities
Amazon's Zoox is developing and testing robotaxis. Zoox is an Amazon-owned company that specializes in autonomous ride-hailing services. They have a purpose-built robotaxi, designed for urban environments, with no steering wheel or driver's seat. Zoox has been testing these vehicles on public roads in various cities, including Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Miami. They are also working on launching a commercial ride-hailing service in Las Vegas.
Robotaxi is able to run safely without a driver
Robotaxi are fully automated. With the help of sensors, cameras, radar and AI algorithms, they are able to run safely without a driver. The system of the vehicle collects information about the route and identifies obstacles and decides the route in the right direction.
