The month of Sawan, a symbol of nature and love, is going to start in about a week. This is also the favorite month of Mahadev, the God of Gods, which is dedicated to the worship of the Lord. This month is considered a great opportunity to please Mahakal and get his special blessings.

According to the Panchang, this year there are a total of four Somwar fasts in Sawan. The first Sawan Somwar will be observed on 14 July, to be followed by 2nd, 3rd and last Sawan Somwar fasts on 21 July, 28 July and 04 August respectively.

According to astrologers, one should take bath and worship Mahadev in the morning on Sawan Monday. One should worship Mahadev with rituals during the fast and offer Shami flower, Belpatra and sandalwood to the Lord.

Take special care of purity throughout the day in Sawan Monday fast.

Do not insult anyone on the day of fast and avoid sleeping during the day.

One should eat food only once in Sawan Monday fast.

Take satvik food in the fast. Do not consume onion, garlic even by mistake.

What to eat during Sawan Monday fast

If you are observing the Sawan Somwar fast, you can consume fruits such as banana, apple, and papaya. In addition to this, you may drink pomegranate juice, coconut water, and milk. For meals, Sabudana Khichdi or Sabudana Kheer are suitable options.

Make sure that the food is prepared using rock salt (sendha namak), which is allowed during fasting. You can also eat puris made from water chestnut flour (singhara atta) or buckwheat flour (kuttu atta).
