Opposition adamant on debate on SIR of Bihar voter list, Rajya Sabha adjourned

New Delhi: The opposition, adamant on the demand to discuss the issue of special intensive revision (SIR) of voter list in Bihar, created a ruckus in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday for the sixth consecutive day due to which the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned till 2 pm.

The monsoon session of Parliament began last week and Tuesday was the seventh meeting of the House, but due to the deadlock between the opposition and the government, not a single day of zero hour and question hour proceedings have been held so far.

After the necessary legislative documents were tabled in the House, Deputy Chairman Harivansh told the members that he has received 24 notices of adjournment motion under Rule 267.

He said that Sandeep Kumar Pathak of Aam Aadmi Party, Ranjit Ranjan of Congress, Shakti Singh Gohil, Rajni Patil, Nasir Hussain and Neeraj Dangi of Congress, Saket Gokhale of Trinamool Congress and Manoj Jha of Rashtriya Janata Dal have given notices to discuss the issue of special intensive revision of voter list in Bihar.

The Deputy Chairman said that Ritabrata Banerjee and Sagarika Ghosh of Trinamool Congress have given notices to discuss the discrimination against Bengali immigrants in other states, Sandosh Kumar P and John Brittas of Communist Party of India have given notices to discuss the arrest of two nuns in Chhattisgarh and Ramjilal Suman of Samajwadi Party has given notice to discuss the issue of sudden resignation of Vice President.

Notices not in accordance with the rules: Harivansh

Harivansh said that these notices are not in accordance with the rules and hence they have not been accepted.

As soon as he said this, members of opposition parties came near the chair and started sloganeering as usual. The Deputy Chairman told the members that for many days you are not taking advantage of the proceedings of Zero Hour and Question Hour. He said that this is the time for the benefit of the members. He requested the members to please let the proceedings of Zero Hour and Question Hour continue.

Seeing that his appeal had no effect on the members, the Deputy Chairman said that it seems you are not interested in running the House. With this, he adjourned the proceedings of the House till 2 o'clock.

After the proceedings of the House in Rajya Sabha fell prey to the uproar of the opposition in the first week, this week also, for the second consecutive day, the opposition members created a ruckus in the House over their demands due to which the proceedings of Zero Hour could not be conducted.
