The issue of the revision of the voter list in Bihar was heard in the Supreme Court on Thursday. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the Supreme Court has refused to stop the revision of the electoral rolls, considering it the jurisdiction of the Election Commission.
However, the Supreme Court has directed the Commission to consider Aadhaar, Voter ID, Ration Card as identity cards. Now the next hearing will be on July 28.
The Supreme Court said during the hearing that the Election Commission is an autonomous body. Therefore, the court cannot stop any decision taken as per the rules, but the Supreme Court definitely raised questions about the timing of the revision of the voter list.
During the hearing, Justice Dhulia said, 'The problem is not in your process. The problem is with your timing. Because those who can be removed from the list will not have time to appeal against it.'
On this, the Election Commission assured that no voter will be removed from the voter list without a hearing. Every voter will be given a chance to be heard.
Earlier, on Wednesday Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had alleged that the Election Commission was attempting to steal votes in Bihar just as it had allegedly done in Maharashtra.
The special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar was not only an attempt to steal your vote but also of your future, Rahul said.
