Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Election Commission announces press conference scheduled for Aug 17
The political temperature in India is currently high regarding the voter list, particularly with the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar this year. Opposition parties, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP), are accusing the BJP and the Election Commission of vote theft. In a surprising move, the Election Commission has announced a press conference scheduled for August 17 at 3 PM, to be held at the National Media Center in New Delhi.
According to the Director General (Media) of the Election Commission, the details surrounding the purpose of this press conference have not yet been disclosed. Speculation suggests that it may be a response to allegations made by Rahul Gandhi, although the Election Commission has previously addressed concerns raised by the opposition.
Opposition leaders, including Gandhi, have claimed that during the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and 2019, the Election Commission removed many eligible voters from the list while adding names of ineligible individuals. They accuse the Election Commission of collusion with the BJP to manipulate the electoral process.
In response to these allegations, the Election Commission stated that various political parties and people have recently raised issues regarding inaccuracies in voter lists, including those compiled in the past. The Commission emphasized that the appropriate time to address any concerns related to voter lists would have been during the claims and objections phase, which is why they share the voter list with all political parties and candidates.
