Seven people, including two children, have died due to the collapse of a temple wall in Delhi's Jaitpur. This information has been given by South East Delhi's Additional DCP Aishwarya Sharma.

Heavy rains have been continuing in Delhi-NCR since Saturday morning. Due to this, waterlogging has occurred in many areas.

The Additional DCP told that the foundation of the wall had weakened due to waterlogging in Jaitpur.

Aishwarya Sharma said, "Due to heavy rains since night, three to four feet of water had filled up, due to which the foundation of the wall weakened. The call about the wall collapse came at 9:14 am."

She said, "After this, the police immediately rushed eight people to the hospital who were buried under the debris of the wall. Now only one person is alive and is undergoing treatment."

According to the Additional DCP, the wall has fallen on the people living in the slums next to the temple.

“There is an old temple here (in Hari Nagar) beside which there are some jhuggis where junk dealers live. Since it rained all night yesterday, there was some waterlogging in the area, which caused the wall to weaken and fall on the shacks. After the rescue operations, we have evacuated the rest of the jhuggi area and have ensured no one else is stuck under the debris,” said Additional DCP Aishwarya Sharma.

The seven dead have been identified as Baby Ruksana (7), Baby Hasina (7), Ravibul (27), Rubina (25), Safiqul (27), Muttus (50), and Doli (28). Hasibul (25) has been identified as the sole survivor and is currently being treated in Safdarjung Hospital, said police.
