Cloudburst in Chamoli: 10 missing, houses, roads damaged, 2nd cloudburst in Uttarakhand in two days

Heavy rainfall that occurred late Wednesday night has wreaked havoc in the Nandanagar tehsil of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. Villages Kuntari Lagafali, Kuntari Laga Sarpani, and Dhurma have suffered extensive damage due to heavy debris.

This is the second cloudburst in Uttarakhand in two days. On the night of September 17, a cloudburst occurred in the Nandanagar Ghat area of Chamoli. Six houses in the Kuntari Langafali ward were buried under debris. Ten people are missing. Two people have been rescued so far.

So far, 15 to 20 houses and several cow shelters have been confirmed damaged.

2,500 tourists stranded in Mussoorie

Earlier, on September 16, a cloudburst occurred in Dehradun. The 35-kilometer road from Dehradun to Mussoorie has been damaged at several places. Due to this, 2,500 tourists are stranded in Mussoorie for the third consecutive day.

Heavy rain and landslides have hampered rescue and relief teams in reaching the scene.

Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari said, "Last night's rain in the Nandanagar area has caused damage in five different locations. Currently, we have reports of ten people missing and several others injured."

The District Magistrate said that roads have collapsed in many places, making it difficult for rescue teams to reach the scene.

According to him, ambulances, medical teams, water resources, and Public Works Department teams have also been activated, and it is expected that the routes will be reopened soon.

419 people have died in HP

This season, 419 people have died in Himachal due to rain, floods, landslides, and flash floods. The Meteorological Department has placed both Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh on high alert for the next 48 hours.
