Maharashtra Politics: After Gujarat, there are talks about big changes in the cabinet in Maharashtra. Some ministers who haven't done well and are involved in controversies might be replaced by new people.
Next year, the performance of the ministers will be reviewed, which is making many of them nervous. Recently, some ministers from the Shiv Sena (Shinde) have been in the news, leading to discussions about who might be replaced.
Who might be out?
The Mahayuti government in Maharashtra has not been in power for a year yet. A senior BJP leader said that they will give ministers enough time to show their work. According to a report, they usually review ministerial performance after two or two and a half years. Those who don't perform well may be let go.
Could Maharashtra follow Gujarat's example?
Last week, the BJP made big changes in Gujarat, where all 16 ministers resigned except for the Chief Minister. The next day, 25 new ministers were sworn in, many of whom were first-time MLAs. They might do something similar in Maharashtra. Some ministers from the Shiv Sena and NCP have been in controversies, which has hurt the government's image. So far, only Dhananjay Munde has resigned, while others have just received warnings. Some of them might keep their jobs next year.
19 of 39 ministers are from BJP
The state had assembly elections last year, and the Fadnavis government took office on December 5. The current cabinet has 39 members: 33 cabinet ministers and 6 ministers of state. Most of the ministers are from the BJP, with 19 from the BJP, 11 from Shinde's Shiv Sena, and 9 from Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party.
