Bhopal: 100 meter stretch of road near Bilkhiriya caves in; MPRDC launches probe


About 100 meter stretch of a road near Bilkhiriya, Bhopal, caved in. One side of the road has been closed. This road belongs to the MPRDC  and it connects Indore, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Mandla, and Sagar.

The incident occurred between 12 and 1 pm on Monday. About 100 meters of the bridge leading from Mandideep to Eintkhedi caved in. Fortunately, no one was passing by at the time. A video of the retaining wall collapse has also surfaced.

Upon receiving the information, officials from the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) and the local administration immediately arrived at the scene. For safety reasons, the entire damaged area has been barricaded to prevent any untoward incidents. Currently, an investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway, and repairs have begun.

Sukhi Sewania Police Station in-charge Rambabu Chaudhary said that traffic has been diverted following the bridge collapse. Police have also been deployed at the scene.



MPRDC forms investigation team

The MPRDC has formed an investigation team, consisting of Chief Engineer BS Meena, General Manager Manoj Gupta, and General Manager RS ​​Chandel. This team will conduct a technical investigation into the causes of the RE wall collapse and submit its report to the government soon. Necessary action will be taken based on this.

Taking the matter seriously, MPRDC Managing Director Bharat Yadav has clarified that if any negligence or irregularities are found in the investigation report, strict disciplinary action will be taken against those responsible.

According to MPRDC officials, this road was built in 2013 by M/s Transtroy under the BOT model. The company's contract was terminated in 2020 for non-compliance with the terms of the contract.

NHAI stated that the road is not under its jurisdiction. An official said, "The collapse occurred about 100 meters ahead of the Kalyanpur railway bridge, coming from Bilkhiriya, under Sukhi Sewania. This road is not under our jurisdiction. It falls under the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation."
