The first phase of construction at the newly built Navi Mumbai Airport has been completed, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate it on Wednesday.
Navi Mumbai International Airport is scheduled to have a total of four terminals, but for now, both international and domestic flights will operate from a single terminal with an annual capacity of 2 crore passengers. Once all four terminals are completed, the total capacity will be 9 crore passengers. Currently, cargo capacity will be 5 lakh tons, which will later increase to 32 lakh tons.
Airport is designed in the shape of a lotus
This airport, built by the Adani Group, is designed in the shape of a lotus. It will have two parallel runways, each 3,700 meters long and 60 meters wide.
Sources said the Prime Minister will inaugurate the airport on October 8 at 1:30 pm.
Terminal 1 has 66 check-in counters, 22 self-baggage drop points, 29 aerobridges, and 10 bus boarding gates.
After completion of all phases, there will be parking spaces for 245 passenger aircraft and seven cargo aircraft. In addition, there will be 79 general aviation stands and 16 general aviation hangars.
The airport is being constructed on 1,160 hectares. Adani Airports Holdings has a 74 percent stake in it, and the Maharashtra Municipal and Industrial Development Corporation has a 26 percent stake.
Air India Group has announced 20 daily flight
The start of flight operations at this airport, located 37 kilometers from South Mumbai, will ease pressure on the main airport. The Air India Group (Air India and Air India Express) has announced 20 daily flights to 15 cities from Navi Mumbai Airport in the initial phase. It has said that it will increase the number of flights to 55 by the middle of next year, including five international flights.
