PM Modi speaks with CJI BR Gavai; how did Rahul Gandhi and Sonia react to the attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today strongly condemned the reprehensible attack on Chief Justice of India, Justice BR Gavai, that occurred earlier in the Supreme Court premises.

Modi spoke to Justice Gavai following the incident and appreciated the calm and composure displayed by him in the face of adversity.

In a post on X, Shri Modi said:

“Spoke to Chief Justice of India, Justice BR Gavai Ji. The attack on him earlier today in the Supreme Court premises has angered every Indian. There is no place for such reprehensible acts in our society. It is utterly condemnable.

I appreciated the calm displayed by Justice Gavai in the face of such a situation. It highlights his commitment to values of justice and strengthening the spirit of our Constitution.”Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi have condemned the attack on Chief Justice BR Gavai on Monday.

Rahul, Sonia's reaction

MP Rahul Gandhi posted on the social media platform X, writing, "The attack on the Chief Justice of India is an assault on the dignity of our judiciary and the spirit of our Constitution.

Such hatred has no place in our nation and must be condemned."

Meanwhile, a separate statement was issued by Sonia Gandhi on the official Congress handle.

It read, "No words are enough to condemn the attack on the respected Chief Justice inside the Supreme Court. This attack is not only on him, but also on our Constitution."

"Chief Justice Gavai has shown humility, but the nation should stand with him in solidarity, deeply pained and indignant."

Anas Tanvir, a lawyer present in the court, described the incident, saying, "There was a brief commotion in the Supreme Court today when a lawyer attempted to attack the Chief Justice."

"While being taken out of the court, the lawyer said, 'India will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan.'"

Anas Tanvir says that Justice Gavai remained calm during this incident and continued the hearing.

Incident must be thoroughly investigated: Jaising

Meanwhile, senior jurist Indira Jaising said the incident must be thoroughly investigated. "The lawyer must be named, and legal action taken against him. This appears to be a blatant casteist attack on the Supreme Court of India. It deserves to be condemned by all judges of the Supreme Court by a united press statement that ideological attacks will not be tolerated by the court. Befitting the court's dignity, the CJI Gavai went about judicial work with no visible disturbance," she said in a post on X.
