What Sunil Gavaskar said about Shubman Gill
Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that Shubman Gill will soon be the captain of all three formats.
He said that Gill was appointed vice-captain in the Asia Cup, which clearly indicates that he will soon become the T20 captain as well.
Speaking to media after the announcement of the ODI team against Australia, Gavaskar said that he was not surprised by Shubman Gill being given the captaincy.
He said, "I think this decision was made keeping in mind the ODI World Cup 2027. Currently, Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of the T20 team. They won the Asia Cup a week ago. Shubman was the vice-captain in that tournament."
"I think the message is clear: Shubman Gill will soon be the captain of all formats."
On Saturday, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that it is not easy to have different captains for all three formats. He said that this makes it difficult for the team to plan and coordinate.
Ajit Agarkar, during a press conference on Saturday, stated that it is "practically impossible" to have three different captains across formats. Gavaskar echoed his sentiments, emphasizing that a team should ideally have one captain for all formats, but only if the player is a guaranteed member of the playing XI.
