ICC Women World Cup 2025: Why Deepti Sharma had declined offer of 43 lakh rupees

ICC Women World Cup 2025Deepti Sharma's performance played a crucial role in India's victory. She excelled not only with the ball but also with the bat, setting several records.

Deepti Sharma played a key role in helping The Hundred team win their first title in the London Spirit tournament in North London, UK. She hit the winning six in the final played at Lord's last year. Deepti scored 289 runs in 16 matches in the tournament.

But Deepti declined to play in The Hundred this year to manage her workload. This resulted in a loss of 36,000 pounds (approximately 43 lakh rupees).

She prioritized World Cup preparation over earnings, and the results were evident.

Born on August 24, 1997, in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, Deepti Sharma made her international debut in 2014 but came to the attention of cricket fans in 2016.

She bats left-handed and bowls right-arm off-breaks.

Deepti Sharma was selected for the Uttar Pradesh team at the age of 12, after playing cricket for just three years. In 2014, she was selected for the series against South Africa. Just two years after her international ODI debut, she secured a place in the Indian T20 team.

At just 18 years old, she achieved the distinction of taking six wickets in an ODI match, becoming the first Indian cricketer to achieve such a feat in both men's and women's cricket.

Initially attempted to become a fast bowler

Deepti began playing cricket at the age of nine and initially attempted to become a fast bowler, but soon decided to become an off-spinner.

The Uttar Pradesh government, recognizing Deepti Sharma's contributions as a cricketer, appointed her as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on January 27th of this year. In addition to this appointment, the Uttar Pradesh government also awarded her a prize of three crore rupees.

When Deepti Sharma was presented with the khaki uniform upon her appointment as DSP, she described it as the fulfillment of a childhood dream. She said, "I have always dreamed of serving the public since childhood."
