Bhopal Metro: A Historic Initiative in Urban Transportation; CM Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to Flag Off
Bhopal is to receive the gift of a modern, safe, and world-class urban transportation system on December 20.
In the capital city, the state-of-the-art metro rail service will be inaugurated on Saturday, December 20th, by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, at 4 PM at the Kushabhau International Convention Centre.
Following the inauguration, CM Dr. Yadav and Manohar Lal Khattar will flag off the metro train at Subhash Metro Station. Both will also take a ride on the metro. They will then proceed to AIIMS and address the press. Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya will also be present on this occasion.
This metro project, spanning a total of 30.8 kilometers, includes two main corridors.
Orange Line: 16.74 km
Blue Line: 14.16 km
Under the first phase of the Bhopal Metro, the priority corridor of the Orange Line is being inaugurated on Dec 20.
This approximately 7-kilometer-long elevated corridor includes 8 stations: AIIMS, Alkapuri, DRM Office, Rani Kamalapati Station, MP Nagar, Board Office Chauraha, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and Subhash Nagar.
Metro fare structure
Up to 2 stations: Rs 20
3–4 stations: Rs 30
5–8 stations: Rs 40
Full corridor: Rs 70
Key features
This priority corridor will connect major commercial and residential areas of the city, reducing traffic congestion and providing citizens with safe, convenient, and timely travel facilities. The total cost of this corridor is Rs 2225 crore, and it is expected to benefit approximately 3000 passengers daily.
The Bhopal Metro project has been developed prioritizing passenger convenience, safety, and environmental protection. Its key features include:
High-speed lifts and escalators at all stations
Easy access for persons with disabilities, wheelchair facilities, and Braille signage
AI-based CCTV surveillance, platform screen doors, and advanced signaling system
Environmentally friendly technologies such as solar power and regenerative braking
Fully air-conditioned coaches, mobile charging points, and a modern passenger information system
