Bhopal: Municipal Corporation may re-launch Mayor Express Service; how it will benefit citizens?
Bhopal: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation is preparing to restart the Mayor Express service, which has been suspended for eight years, to provide citizens with essential services for their daily needs right at their homes. This plan will be discussed in the Mayor's Council, and suggestions will also be sought from the public to ensure the service is more effective and tailored to their needs. Previously, the Mayor Express offered five to six types of services, but the new plan aims to increase this number.
The proposed services now include electricians, carpenters, plumbers, turners, mechanics, painters, and drivers, along with cooks, sweepers, domestic helpers, and other services for minor household tasks, considering the needs of the residents.
Proposed fee increase from Rs 200 to 500
When this service was launched about nine years ago, the fee was set at Rs 200. However, the new plan proposes increasing the fee to Rs 500. Corporation officials say that the increase is necessary due to inflation and the expansion of services.
The Mayor Express service was launched in 2016 but was unsuccessful due to insufficient publicity. Initially, the corporation deployed 12 employees, including six technicians, in two vehicles. The service received a good response in the first year, but gradually, public awareness decreased. The service was discontinued in 2018.
Manoj Rathore, MIC Member, Mayor's Council, said a complete plan is being prepared to re-launch the Mayor Express in a new form. The range of services will be expanded after taking suggestions from the public.
