Railways increase fares, know how much the fare has increased in each class
Indian Railways has made several changes to its fares, which will be implemented from December 26.
According to the update issued by the railways, there has been no increase in the fare for General Class for distances up to 215 kilometers. For distances beyond that, the fare has been increased by 1 paisa per kilometer.
This means that if you travel 300 kilometers, you will have to pay an additional 85 paise for the extra 85 kilometers.
Along with this, the fare for Non-AC class in Mail/Express trains has also been increased by 2 paise per kilometer. This means that for a 300-kilometer journey, you will have to pay 600 paise (Rs 6) more.
For Non-AC class, a maximum increase of Rs 10 will be applicable for distances of 500 kilometers or more.
Now, AC class passengers will also have to pay increased fares at the rate of 2 paise per kilometer.
The railways have stated that this fare increase will generate an additional revenue of approximately Rs 600 crore.
This change has been made keeping in mind the operational, safety, and increased staffing needs due to the expansion of the railway network in recent years.
Relief for short-distance travelers and season ticket holders
The railways have provided relief to millions of passengers traveling on short routes. There has been no increase in fares for journeys of less than 215 kilometers. This means that short-distance travel will remain as affordable as before.
In addition, there is good news for daily commuters as well. The railways have not changed the prices of suburban train tickets and monthly season tickets (MSTs). This will not burden the millions of passengers who travel on local trains in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai.
