IPL 2026: Rishabh Pant Steps Down as LSG Captain; What Did Franchise Say?
Following the team's disappointing performance in recent IPL-2026 seasons, Rishabh Pant has resigned from the captaincy of the Lucknow Super Giants. The franchise has confirmed that Pant himself requested to be relieved of his captaincy duties, and the management has accepted his decision.
LSG's Cricket Director, Tom Moody, revealed that Pant had personally approached the franchise regarding this move. He further added that making such decisions is never easy, and he expressed his gratitude to the wicketkeeper-batsman for his contributions and leadership within the dressing room.
After parting ways with the Delhi Capitals, Pant joined the Lucknow team ahead of the 2025 IPL season. The franchise acquired him for a staggering sum of Rs 27 crore, making him one of the most expensive players in the history of the IPL.
However, under Pant's captaincy, the Lucknow team failed to achieve any significant success. The team finished in seventh place during the 2025 season, and currently, they sit at the bottom of the points table this year as well—circumstances that had led to mounting pressure regarding the captaincy.
