Organised on Ganga Dussehra under the state government’s ‘Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan’, the programme witnessed Chief Minister Dr. Yadav performing traditional poojan-archan at Devi Sagar Talab and conveying the message of public participation in water conservation through shramdaan.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that water conservation is a social campaign driven by jan-bhagidari. He said that extensive efforts continue across the state to conserve, rejuvenate and augment water sources. The Chief Minister appealed to citizens to actively participate in saving water and reviving traditional water bodies.

Ganga Dussehra celebrations were organised simultaneously across the state. Water sources across all districts were worshipped, and Ganga Kalash Yatras were also taken out under the campaign. Through these programmes, the message of water conservation and public awareness was widely disseminated.

Saadhe Barah Talabs of Dhar

Devi Sagar Talab is one of the major water structures among the historic ‘Saadhe Barah Talabs’ of Dhar. The Parmar rulers of Dhar, followed later by the Pawar rulers, developed remarkable systems of water conservation and management. For several years, the talab has played a vital role in supplying water to Dhar. The ‘Saadhe Barah Talabs’ of Dhar are regarded as outstanding examples of skilled engineering and traditional water management systems.

For the conservation of Devi Sagar Talab, the urban local body conducts annual public awareness campaigns and continuous cleaning drives with support from social organisations. The talab was designed in such a way that excess water from upper water bodies naturally flowed into this lake, ensuring an uninterrupted water supply to the city.

Garh Kalika Mata Temple is an important centre of faith

Situated on a hill beside the talab, the Garh Kalika Mata Temple is an important centre of faith for devotees from across the country. Owing to its peaceful and scenic surroundings, the site remains a major attraction for local residents and tourists alike.
