MP: President Murmu visits cheetah command and control centre, also views cheetah exhibition at Kuno
During her two-day visit to Kuno National Park, President Droupadi Murmu inspected the Cheetah Command and Control Center on Sunday. During the inspection, she was briefed on the processes involved in monitoring and tracking the cheetahs.
The President also viewed an exhibition at the center's premises showcasing the progress made by the Cheetah Project so far. She was informed that the current cheetah population in India stands at 52; of these, 49 are housed at Kuno, while three have been relocated to the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary in Mandsaur.
President Murmu inquired about the facilities provided for the cheetahs. She was informed that water pits have been constructed in the forest at intervals of every two kilometers and are filled with water as needed. She was also apprised of the activities of the cheetahs brought from Botswana. It is noteworthy that the eight cheetahs brought to Kuno were received by President Murmu during her visit to Botswana.
Officials present on the occasion included CCF Shri Uttam Kumar, Collector Ms. Sheela Dahima, and DFO Shri R. Thirukural.
Murmu Welcomed at Kuno Helipad
President Smt. Droupadi Murmu arrived at Kuno National Park in Sheopur district on Sunday for a two-day visit, accompanied by Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel. Upon her arrival at the Kuno National Park helipad, she was welcomed by the 'Minister-in-Waiting' and the district's Minister-in-Charge, Rakesh Shukla, who presented her with a bouquet. She was also welcomed by MP Shivmangal Singh Tomar, Principal Secretary (Forest) Sandeep Yadav, PCCF Shubhranjan Sen, Collector Sheela Dahima, and Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Agrawal.
President Murmu will stay overnight at Kuno National Park and also hold discussions with Forest Department officials regarding this significant project for the reintroduction of cheetahs in India.
