Weather: SW Monsoon-2026 enters Madhya Pradesh; intermittent showers lash Bhopal; heavy rain expected in over 40 districts; check IMD alert and prediction

Bhopal: The southwest monsoon entered Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the monsoon has reached the state via Balaghat, Dindori, Anuppur, Seoni, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Betul, Harda, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Khargone and Barwani districts.

According to the IMD, the monsoon has reached the state about nine days behind schedule as compared to the normal date of June 15. It is  to spread to most parts of the state in the next three to four days.

With the entry of monsoon, the IMD has issued an alert of strong winds, thunderstorms and rain in 42 districts of the state. Rain is expected in many districts including Harda, Betul, Khandwa, Chhindwara, Pandhurna and Burhanpur. 

Thunderstorms and rain are also expected in several districts, including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Sehore, Shajapur, Dhar, Khargone, Narmadapuram, Sagar, Damoh, Jabalpur, Katni, Seoni, Rewa, Mauganj, and Singrauli.

Rain and strong winds were recorded in 39 districts of the state during the last 24 hours. Hailstorms also occurred in Balaghat. Balaghat and Raisen received nearly 3 CM of rainfall.

Showers lash Bhopal

Bhopal received widespread rainfall on Wednesday. Dark clouds covered the skies in the late afternoon and intermittent showers lashed the city accompanied by lightning.

According to Meteorological Department data, the state should have received an average of 78.5 mm of rainfall since June 1st, but only 37.1 mm of rainfall has been recorded, which is 53 percent below normal. The low rainfall has affected the sowing of Kharif crops, including soybean.

Temps dropped across state

Due to rain and cloud cover, temperatures dropped in most parts of the state. Pachmarhi recorded the lowest maximum temperature of 30.2 degrees Celsius, while Datia and Sidhi recorded the highest temperatures of 41.2 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to exercise caution during bad weather and stay in safe places to protect themselves from lightning.
