Ayodhya: The Ayodhya Bar Association has decided that none of its members will represent the accused arrested in the case involving the theft of offerings at the Ram Mandir. This decision was reached unanimously during a special meeting of the association's executive committee on Monday.

Bar Association President Kalika Prasad Mishra stated that, instead, the association would form a panel of lawyers to assist the prosecution and closely monitor the court proceedings. He also warned that if any member appears on behalf of the accused despite this resolution, disciplinary action would be taken against them. This could include a fine of Rs 5 lakh and the termination of their Bar Association membership.

The association has also decided to write to the District Magistrate requesting the inclusion of its representatives in the legal proceedings to ensure the case is pursued effectively.

Bar Association demands impartial investigation

During the meeting, the Bar Association demanded an impartial investigation into the alleged roles of Champat Rai (former General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust), Anil Mishra (former Trustee), and Gopal Rao (Ram Mandir construction assistant). It urged officials to initiate appropriate legal action under Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) if evidence is found, and requested that these individuals not be permitted to leave Ayodhya until the investigation is concluded.

Meanwhile, the accused were produced before the magistrate via video conferencing from jail and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Given the sensitivity of the case, the Bar Association's stance has sparked discussion within legal circles.
