15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripts history, becomes youngest player to debut for India
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history by becoming the youngest cricketer to represent India in international cricket. Making his T20 International debut against England at the age of 15 years and 99 days, Vaibhav received his debut cap from India's vice-captain, Tilak Varma.
With this achievement, Vaibhav broke the long-standing record held by Shafali Verma, who had made her international debut at the age of 15 years and 239 days. He also became the youngest player to debut for India, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, who had made his debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days. India won the toss and elected to bat in the second T20I.
Adding to the significance of the occasion, Vaibhav made his debut at Old Trafford in Manchester—the very ground where Sachin Tendulkar scored his maiden Test century on August 14, 1990. At the age of 17 years and 112 days, Tendulkar had scored an unbeaten 119 against England, helping India save the Test match.
