Bhopal markets turn vibrant and colorful as Rakshabandhan rush picks up; stalls selling rakhis, sweets, and festive items tranform the city ahead of celebrations
Bhopal: With Raksha Bandhan round the corner, a festive buzz and crowds are visible in Bhopal's markets as people step out to purchase rakhis, sweets, and gifts. From traditional threads to trendy cartoon-themed rakhis, the markets offer something for people of all ages.
Markets decked up for the festival
Major shopping hubs like New Market, Chowk Bazaar, Lakherapura, Bairagarh, and 10 Number Market are bustling with activity. Temporary stalls selling rakhis, gifts, and decorative items have sprung up along roadsides and near busy intersections, further enhancing the festive spirit.
Shopkeepers report a steady rise in the number of customers over the past few days. Colorful decorations and a wide variety of merchandise have further boosted the enthusiasm of shoppers.
Demand for traditional and trendy rakhis
Rakhis are available at various price points, ranging from as low as Rs 10 to premium designs. Among adults, eco-friendly mauli thread rakhis, pearl designs, and those featuring religious symbols (such as the Swastika) are popular.
Meanwhile, children are showing greater interest in rakhis that feature colorful lights, music, and cartoon themes. Traders are also observing an increase in demand for Swadeshi (indigenous) and locally made rakhis.
Sweet shops gear up despite rising costs
Sweet shops have also been decorated and stocked with festive favorites like Laddu and Kaju Katli. However, rising sugar prices and other costs have put pressure on both sweet makers and customers.
With the price of sugar hovering around Rs 70 per kilogram, the prices of sweets have risen by approximately 20 to 30 percent. Despite the price hike, shopkeepers anticipate strong demand during the festival.
Colorful stalls, bustling markets, and decked-up sweet shops have created a festive atmosphere in Bhopal, and shoppers are excited to complete their Raksha Bandhan preparations.
