Chhindwara: If you wish to enjoy lush greenery, a blanket of clouds, cool breezes, and unique natural vistas during the monsoon month of Sawan, then Tamia in Madhya Pradesh awaits you. The Sawan Festival, which has kicked off here, has infused the entire region with the vibrant spirit of celebration and tourism. With its gentle drizzle, thick fog, and verdant mountains, Tamia feels nothing short of paradise.


Speaking at the festival's inauguration, MP Bunty Vivek Sahu stated that Tamia’s Sawan Festival would give a new identity to rural tourism. "If you want to experience valleys reminiscent of Kashmir and the cool climate of Shimla, you must visit Tamia," he said. According to him, the festival represents a unique confluence of clouds, music (Malhar), and the soil (Mati), offering a wonderful experience that blends nature and culture.


MP Sahu appeared deeply moved by the event. He was presented with a Gond art painting and joined a dance troupe from the tourism village of Ghatlinga, dancing while playing the dhol (drum). At the festival, he also savored Mahua pudi, Sama kheer, and Barbati dal vadas.



Homestays transforming the lives of villagers


Homestays developed in Tamia and surrounding tourism villages are fast becoming the top choice for tourists. Visitors from across the country and abroad are experiencing the local culture and traditional lifestyle here. The MP said that these homestays have created new employment and self-employment opportunities for the villagers. In the future, homestays will be developed in other villages of Chhindwara as well, further strengthening rural tourism.

During the Sawan Festival, the enthusiasm of tourists amidst the gentle rain and thick fog in Tamia is a sight to behold. Traditional Sawan swings have become a major attraction for children and the youth alike. Large numbers of tourists from Maharashtra, Karnataka, and various cities across Madhya Pradesh are flocking here to enjoy the natural beauty and capture memorable moments on camera.


57 homestays operational; 100 more in the pipeline


DP Singh, Director (Skills) of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, stated that several new activities have been launched in the tourism villages with the support of the district administration. Currently, 57 homestays are operational in Chhindwara district, while approximately 100 new ones are being developed. The remaining construction work will also be completed soon.



A Unique Blend of Tribal Culture and Local Flavors


Organized by the District Archaeology, Tourism, and Culture Council, this festival offers a magnificent glimpse of local culture alongside natural beauty. Tribal art, handicrafts, and handloom products are attracting a large number of tourists.


Additionally, the pure desi ghee from the tourism village of Sawarwani and the delicious mawa from Chopna have become popular among visitors. The Tamia Sawan Festival is not merely a celebration of tourism; it is also serving as a medium to give a new identity to local art, culture, traditions, and the rural economy.
