Tamia Sawan Mahotsav in Chhindwara from August 21 to 23; what special activities and attractions will be available for tourists.

Chhindwara: The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board and the district administration are jointly organizing the Tamia Sawan Mahotsav. The festival aims to promote rural homestays in Chhindwara, foster tourism development, and encourage local traditional sports. The Tamia Sawan Mahotsav will be held from August 21 to August 23, 2026. 


Organized through the District Archaeology, Tourism, and Culture Council, the festival will feature a variety of activities for tourists, including traditional Sawan swings, tribal art, sales of handicrafts and handloom products, and a nature photography competition. 


Pure desi ghee (clarified butter) from the tourism village of Savarwani and delicious mawa (condensed milk solids) from the tourism village of Chopna will also be available for purchase. Visitors can even take selfies while wearing tribal attire and bamboo crowns.


Special activities at the Sawan Mahotsav


Tamia has been specially decorated for the festival, and extensive arrangements regarding safety and cleanliness have been made at all trekking points. Tour operators from major cities across the country are also participating in the festival and will experience the charm of homestays in Tamia and the surrounding areas. Preparations for the Tamia Sawan Mahotsav are being carried out on a grand scale under the able guidance of Collector Harendra Narayan and District Panchayat CEO Agrim Kumar.


Balram Rajput, Nodal Officer for the District Archaeology, Tourism, and Culture Council, stated that local dance, folk art, and folk music will be integral parts of the three-day festival. Organized with the support of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, the festival will take place near the renowned PWD Rest House in Tamia. 


Numerous stalls have been set up


Numerous stalls offering food and beverages will be set up for tourists. Given the cultural significance of swings during the Sawan season, visitors will also be able to enjoy the swings installed at the venue. Trekking guides will assist tourists in visiting Vulture Point, Cheed Point, Chhota Mahadev, Gwalgarh Hill, and Tultula Hill. Special arrangements will be made to transport tourists to the homestays operating in the tourism villages of Tamia Block.


Festival will be plastic-free and zero-waste


In accordance with the directives of Collector Harendra Narayan, efforts are being made to ensure the Tamia Sawan Festival remains plastic-free and zero-waste. Extensive arrangements for dustbins will be made throughout the fairgrounds, and volunteers will keep a close watch. Provisions are also being made to impose fines on those who litter. The district administration has appealed to all tourists to avoid using plastic and to maintain cleanliness.
