Significance of Basant Panchami: How to do Pooja On This Day


According to Hindu Panchang, the festival of Basant Panchami is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the Shukla Paksha of Magha month.People worship Goddess Saraswati on this day. Other than India, this festival is also celebrated with great enthusiasm in Bangladesh and Nepal. On this day, people wear yellow clothes and worship Goddess Saraswati . Vasant means 'Spring' in hindi and Panchami means fifth, hence this day marks the beginning of spring.

This year Basant Panchami holds greater importance because of the coincidence of two auspicious Siddhi and Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga on this day. Siddhi and Sarvaartha siddhi Yoga are considered to be best for rites like marriage and other auspicious functions. Along with the worship of Mother Saraswati on Basant Panchami, this day has an auspicious muhurt for marriages too.

-Yellow colour is considere favorite of Goddess Saraswati. So wear yellow on this day. You can also wear white clothes.Begin the puja by facing east or north.

-Put a yellow cloth on Goddess Saraswati and for prasad you can for yellow sweets, curd-mishri, halwa etc.

-Offer white sandalwood and yellow and white flowers to Maa Saraswati with your right hand.

-It would be best to offer saffron mixed kheer.

-Chant the basic mantra of Maa Saraswati.

-Do not use black and blue clothes in puja.You can also do a special puja, if there is any hindrance in education.
