No tolls on highways! GPS-based toll collection system coming!

Toll plazas on national highways will be abolished within a year, according to Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. He said that toll booths will be erased next year and collection will be done through GPS. 


"I want to assure the House that within one year all physical toll booths in the country will be removed and toll collection will be done via GPS. The money will be collected based on GPS imaging," said Nitin Gadkari.


According to his ministry, around 93% of the vehicle started using FASTag to pay tolls and 7% of them are not using this electronic toll collection system. 


Nitin Gadkari also added that he has asked for police inquiry on 7% of vehicles that have not used FASTag to pay tolls. Such vehicles can be charged under toll fraud and GST evasion.

Media and Entertainment sector lower downs 24% in 2020 despite last-quarter rebound

  India's media and entertainment (M&E) sector lower downed 24% to Rs1.38 trillion in 2020 due to the corona-virus pandemic. The contractions came despite a rebound in the last-quarter. The M&E sector is supposed to expand 25% to Rs1.73 trillion in 2021 and compound annual growth rate of 13.7% to Rs2.23 trillion by 2023, according to a joint report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry(Ficci) and EY, finance consulting firm.  While advertisement revenues dropped 25% to 19,900 crore and subscriptions fell 20% to 15,400 crores. Digital advertisement remained unchanged, but print (Rs 8,400 crore) and television (Rs 6,900 crore) advertising saw the steepest declines. The only segments that rose in 2020 were digital and online gaming, which added a total of Rs 2,600 crore and their contribution to the M&E sector rose from 16% in 2019 to 23% in 2020.
