Earthquake In Delhi-NCR: People Rush Out Of Houses, 6 Die In Nepal, Uttarakhand Also Jolted

New Delhi: Strong tremors of earthquake were felt in North India including Delhi-NCR at around 2 am on Wednesday. Uttarakhand was also jolted, while six people died in Nepal.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Nepal where it had a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale.

A house collapsed due to the earthquake in Nepal's Doti district, in which six people died and five people were injured.

According to the National Seismological Center (NSC) of Nepal, the far-west region of Nepal witnessed three tremors - 2 earthquakes and 1 aftershock. It was the third jolt that led to the loss of lives after a house collapsed. The Nepal Army has been mobilized to the earthquake-affected areas for a search and rescue operation. 

Strong tremors felt in Delhi NCR for 20 seconds

Strong tremors of earthquake were felt in Delhi NCR for about 20 seconds.

According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 1:57 minutes and 24 seconds late on November 9. Its center was 10 km deep.

The tremors caused by this earthquake in Delhi were very strong. In many areas, people came out of their homes late at night.

I woke up with bed shaking, says Noida resident

This scene was scary for the people living in Delhi-Noida. People started running out of the house and on the road. Ajay Khare, a resident of a multi-storey in Noida said at 2 am we were all in deep sleep when it felt like someone was shaking the bed. He said he woke up in a panic and took a second to understand that it was an earthquake. 

Ajay started looking around so that it could be confirmed whether the bed started shaking due to shaking of earth or there was some confusion. The key hanging in the cupboard was moving rapidly. In the field in front of the balcony, the dogs were also barking furiously. 

Ajay realized it was an earthquake. When he came down and reached in the open he found many other people like him were also there. All of them were scared and for a long time they could not gather the courage to return to their homes. 

Uttarakhand also hit by tremor

After a 6.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Nepal in the early hours of Wednesday (Nov 9), Uttarakhand was hit by a 4.3-magnitude earthquake hours later at 6:27 am. The epicenter was Pithoragarh according to the National Center for Seismology.

Three days ago as well, Uttarakhand had been struck by an earthquake. An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 hit Tehri in Uttarakhand on Nov 6 at 8:33 AM according to the National Center for Seismology. No casualties were reported.
