Gujarat Elections 2022: Will Medha Patkar Taking Part in Bharat Jodo Yatra Harm Congress Politically?

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has attacked Rahul Gandhi and Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar in two election rallies in the Gujarat Elections 2022.

Medha Patkar had participated in Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in Maharashtra. The Congress had tweeted her pictures with Rahul.

PM Narendra Modi, who is campaigning in Gujarat, attacked the Congress on 20 November at Dhoraji's election rally in Rajkot district.

He said, "Congress leaders were seen taking out a padyatra with a woman who had stalled the Narmada Dam project for three decades. Just think what would have happened today if the Narmada Dam had not been built.”

Bhupendra Patel also targeted Congress: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also targeted the Congress and said, "By giving a prominent place to Medha Patkar in his yatra, Rahul Gandhi has once again shown his enmity towards Gujarat and Gujaratis."

A day later i.e. on 21 November, Narendra Modi again surrounded the Congress on this issue. This time, in a rally in Surendranagar district, Modi appealed to punish 'opponents of Narmada'.

BJP is now making it an election issue: With the PM's attack on the meeting of Rahul Gandhi and Medha Patkar in two election rallies in two consecutive days, it is becoming clear that BJP is now making it an election issue.

Some political observers feel Medha Patkar taking part in Bharat Jodo Yatra could harm Congress politically in Gujarat polls.

Medha Patkar had launched a long agitation against the displacement caused by the Narmada Valley Project.

Therefore, his meeting with Rahul Gandhi provided a good opportunity for the BJP to corner the Congress in Gujarat.
