Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir Brawl: Sunil Gavaskar Wants Stricter Punishment

Mumbai: Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir and Naveen-ul-Haq have been in the limelight since Monday night's ruckus in an IPL 2023 match. There is talk social media about heated debate between them on the field and former cricketers have also expressed their views.

Both Gambhir and Kohli have been fined 100% of their match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. The incident involved a Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the Code, and both admitted to their wrongdoing,

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were fined  by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the post-match brawl, but cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar believes that this punishment is mild. They should be ruled out of some matches, he said.

Gavaskar said these things never look good. What is a 100 percent match fee? It is about one crore rupees. They are going to be fined Rs 1 crore each. It is not enough, said Gavaskar.

He said: "So, my point, do something which will make sure, these things don’t happen again. You have to ask them to maybe step aside for a couple of matches. Make sure you do something that ensures that these things don’t happen and also something that will hurt the team. That’s a stiff one."
