How Much BJP Will Benefit From Nari Shakti Vandan Bill In Upcoming Elections?

New Delhi: After decades of waiting, the Women's Reservation Bill or Nari Shakti Vandan Bill was passed in both the houses of the Parliament. Now there will be pressure on parties to give tickets to women candidates in the coming elections because they will have to show that they are pro-women.

Every party will have to give tickets to at least 25-30 percent women, otherwise they will have to face a lot of criticism.

On the other hand, political parties and analysts have raised the question that when the bill will take several years to be implemented, why did the government call a special session of Parliament and get it passed?

After the general elections held in the year 2019, it was revealed that a large number of women had voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In such a situation, this bill is a part of BJP's strategy in view of the upcoming assembly and general elections. This could also be an attempt to increase its support base among women voters. But it remains to be seen what will be its real impact on voters.

Assembly elections are to be held in Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram in the next few months and general elections will be held in the country in the year 2024.

Bill will definitely strengthen Modi's image

Experts believe that the Opposition has succeeded in conveying the message to the people that this bill will not be implemented in the next general elections. In such a situation, Nari Shakti Vandan Bill will not be able to give much benefit to BJP in these states but it will definitely strengthen Modi's image that 'he can do it'.

However, BJP will try to capitalize on the issue in these elections that the Opposition did not do anything on this bill which was lying in cold storage for 27 years and BJP has brought it to empower women.

According to some analysts, BJP will include this bill in a package.

If we look at Nirmala Sitharaman's speeches, she is not talking  only about the latest bill but is also talking about 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao', 'Ujjwala Yojana', 'Construction of toilets' etc. That is she included this bill in a package.

Bill could have proved to be a game changer for BJP if...

If this bill had been implemented in the year 2024, it could have proved to be a game changer for the BJP, but linking it with delimitation and census, that is, work on these will start from 2026, so it will take several years for the bill to be implemented.

On whether the party will make women candidates in the upcoming elections, Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh says, "Of course Congress will give more tickets to women as it happened in UP. But BJP will not get votes of more women through this bill."
