Lok Sabha Passes Women's Reservation Bill; Sonia Gandhi, Rahul, Amit Shah Said This

New Delhi: Women's Reservation Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Bill) was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, the third day of the special session of Parliament. In the slip voting, 454 votes were cast in support of the bill and 2 against it. Now tomorrow (Thursday) this bill will be presented in the Rajya Sabha. After passing from there, it will go for the approval of the President. This will become law after getting the approval of the President.

Bill should be enforced immediately: Sonia

Earlier, Initiating the debate in the Lok Sabha on the document, Sonia Gandhi said, "On behalf of the Congress party, I stand in support of the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023' (Women's Reservation Bill)".

She said further, "The Congress demands that this Bill be enforced immediately, and along with that, provisions should be made for reservations for women from SC, ST and OBC communities by holding a caste census."

Lauding the role played by Indian women in society, the country's history including the freedom movement, she said they have been waiting for their political responsibility for 13 years – a reference to a previous version of the Bill that was brought by the Congress-led UPA. government. The Bill was cleared by the Rajya Sabha in 2010, but lapsed as the Lok Sabha did not vote on it amid stiff opposition from some parties.

Sonia said, 'The law giving reservation to women in local bodies was first brought by my husband Rajiv Gandhi, which was defeated in the Rajya Sabha by 7 votes. Later the government of PV Narasimha Rao got it passed. The result of this is that there are 15 lakh elected women leaders in local bodies across the country. Rajiv's dream is only half fulfilled, with the passing of this bill the dream will be fulfilled.

This bill is incomplete without OBC reservation: Rahul

Rahul Gandhi said – This bill is incomplete without OBC reservation, while Amit Shah said – This reservation will be applicable equally to General, SC and ST. Census and delimitation will take place immediately after the elections and women's participation will soon increase in the House.

Rahul Gandhi said - out of 90 secretaries who run the country, only 3 are OBC. In response to this, Shah, without taking Rahul's name, said that the country is run by the government, not the secretaries.

Of the total BJP MPs, 85 are from OBC. Of the total BJP MLAs, 27% are from OBC. Of the total BJP MLCs, 40% MLCs are OBC.

Law Minister Arjunram Meghwal said that I was an IAS before joining politics. The 1992 batch officer will become the secretary. Whose government was there at that time? He (Rahul Gandhi) is cursing his own government.

Bill will mark the start of a new era: Shah

Shah said- The passage of the women's reservation bill will mark the start of a new era, and recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had presented the vision of women-led development at the recent G20 Summit.

The Modi government has been pushing for empowerment of women since the day it assumed office, he said.

Women's security, respect and equal participation have been life force of the government, he said.

For some people, women empowerment may be an issue of winning elections, but for my party and my leader Modi, this issue is not a matter of politics but an issue of recognition. It was Modi who provided 33 percent reservation for women on party posts in BJP.

Shah said- This constitutional amendment has not come for the first time. Four attempts were made from Deve Gowda ji to Manmohan ji. Was the intention incomplete?
